Bianca K. Nunez, founder of Celestial Light Studios, is a writer, director, and actor whose work explores philosophy, family, and mythology. Her storytelling spans film, literature, and experimental projects, including Ms. Vanguard, a mini series, and the novels The Sacred Jewel and Hermana Dolls.
Bianca has developed her debut feature, The Hermetica, while also producing feature films such as Rise of the Underdog and Break a Leg. Through Celestial Light, her stories aim to entertain while shedding light on topics often considered taboo, with the intention of inspiring audiences to explore the deeper truths of the world and their place in it.
There’s a point when speaking your truth becomes a threat, when simply voicing an opinion is enough to silence you. That’s when you realise the freedoms you once took for granted no longer exist—especially for those who already exist on the edges. I learned that lesson the hard way, when I was thrown into a holding cell for advocating freedom of choice.
Determined to fight back, I realised if I couldn’t speak in my own voice, I’d speak through my characters. So, I began to write.
Ms. Vanguard is more than just a film to me; it’s the moment I found the courage to speak my truth in a world that tries to suppress it. Growing up as a biracial, dark-skinned girl with curly hair, I escaped the rigid black-and-white world around me through the vibrant colours of books and films. This film is inspired by my personal struggles with society, and by my hope to find fellow artists who long to bring colour back to a world that’s losing it.
