Bianca K. Nuñez is a screenwriter, filmmaker, and published author with an edgy and avant-garde style that challenges the status quo. Her passion for telling stories about society's outsiders and misfits has created a wave of dark and daring productions, including a catalogue of experimental films and novellas. Her recent books include The Sacred Jewel and Hermana Dolls, each the first in its series. Additionally, she has produced feature films Movie Sense and Break a Leg. At just 19, Bianca established her production company, Celestial Light Productions. Bianca’s stories explore esoteric philosophy, family, and the examination of the human psyche.
When expressing your opinion becomes a crime and your voice is forcibly muted, it signals a society that no longer cherishes the freedoms of its people—especially those who are marginalised. I learned this the hard way when I found myself in a holding cell for promoting freedom of choice.
Determined to do something about it, I knew that if I couldn’t speak as myself, I would speak through my characters. And so, I started writing.
Ms. Vanguard is more than simply a film to me. It was the first moment I felt the courage to speak my truth in a world that otherwise praises silence. Growing up as a biracial, dark, curly-haired girl, I sought escape from the black and white around me in favour of the vibrant colours found only in books and films. This film is inspired by my personal struggles with society, as well as my hopes and dreams of finding like-minded artists who also wish to bring colour back into the world.
Ms. Vanguard is a film for the misfits, by the misfits. It’s intended to be a proof-of-concept for a TV series, and as I see it, it’s the new team of Avengers for the next generation—only minus the powers.
