Director Statement

I found the story “Mrityu Rog” (Passion To Die) from a monthly magazine, the story is written by Mr. Prochet Gupta, that time I lived in a mess, I read the story several times and I love the story, every night I read the story, after three months I decided to make a video film on that story, as because every year in the world many people do suicide but our society could not get any reason behind their suicide. Through this film I tried to minimize the queries of those people whose relatives have or had done suicide. It’s very difficult to start the story on screen because suicide is an unacceptable decision in our society; society does not appreciate the person who tries to runaway from the challenges of life, that’s why suicide is very bitter, but truth and a dark side of entire society.

Subho didn’t want to be like others as having a specific job, wife, children etc. He always wanted to do something extra ordinary, something different but till death he couldn’t find the purpose of his birth that’s why ‘Subho’ think that suicide is the best friend for him who meets him with an endless life after death because ‘Subho’ always had a passion to know what’s going on after death. Not only ‘Subho’ but I also had a big challenge to shape up the story on screen that how to make a different definition for ‘SUICIDE’, that death is a border line with body at one side and soul with an endless life in another side.

After a long period I decided that at the beginning of the film ‘Subho’ decided to do suicide. After suicide his father had seen the suicidal note which tells that “no one is responsible for my death” his father became so shocked. ‘Subho’s’ soul came out from his body and became free. Suddenly he met with another soul, which is of his childhood friend “Neel” who died 15 years ago in childhood itself. On asking by ‘Neel’, ‘Subho’ started telling some facts of his life to ‘Neel’ why ‘Subho’ didn’t continue his life.

I found that the story is offbeat story, so I presented it to the viewers, in an innovative mode, not in a traditional or straight line presentation of film. Normally, in real life when a person meets with his childhood friend, their childish emotions comes out, they memorizes and goes to all their memorable days in childhood, there is no formal behavior or they didn’t follow any step by step method like interview or interaction with colleague or neighbor etc., similarly on asking by ‘Neel’, ‘Subho’ started sharing haphazardly some facts and views of his life to ‘Neel’.

Through or by which dialogues and activities I will present the story on screen required much time for me, because suicide is love towards death but a normal person doesn’t like death. Previously I decided to make approx one and half hour duration of the film but later I discussed with some of my friends and found that a normal person having love towards life does not have much patience to see this film for much time. So, I used nominal time required to express the main and core fact of the story. After script I completed the screenplay within two months. I have shown our hero’s suicide at the beginning of the story and gradually justified his suicide. I found suitable locations which were convenient for me to shoot the video as much as smooth it could be. It took 15 days.

Financing of this film has been done by me itself as this type of story has not being encouraged by our society normally. So I had to make my own budget for this experimental video. Due to lack of sufficient monetary power I could not approach to any paid box artist for this project. I used to do investments in shares of different companies, whatever the profits I got; I invested the whole in this project and my dady Mr. Kanai Lal Pal had also helped me in production so I gave his name as a producer of my video film with respect and gratitude. According to my budget I started finding casts more or less suitable for the characters. It delayed my project for 8 months.

After that I got necessary permissions from my neighborhood and I got confirmation by my camera man, my editor and all other crews.
