Writer Biography - Haruhiko Cho

I was born and raised in Japan and moved to the United States in my early twenties to study film and screenwriting at UCLA Extension. Since then, I’ve been writing in both English and Japanese, publishing an English-language book and contributing a sci-fi novel to a Japanese online platform.

I draw inspiration from a wide range of genres, with favorite films including Kurosawa’s Dodeskaden, Tarkovsky’s Nostalgia, and The Blues Brothers.

I’m currently preparing to go into production on a short horror film in winter 2025.

We fear death because of the uncertainty that surrounds it. However, we can confront this fear by living well, being cautious, and praying for God’s mercy. But what if we find ourselves without these options? This is the central theme of the short film. The fate of the main character rests in the hands of a madwoman who desires to sacrifice the heroine's life to atone for her own past mistakes. The heroine is powerless against the madwoman and pleads for her life. Her only hope lies with the madwoman’s brother, who once saved her from attempting suicide. Will he choose to intervene and spare the heroine's life, or will he succumb to the madness of his sister?
