More Than Just Water
Patrick Murphy has earned his living from the bounty of Lake Erie his whole working life, but now his livelihood is no longer assured with the decline of the fishing industry and the loss of identity his community faces with the shrinkage of its primary industry. More Than Just Water explores the themes of transformation and adaptation to the modern world, and how many careers and trades are being phased out due to technology across the world. This is not just a local issue, not a provincial issue, this is a national issue that is happening to many communities across Canada and the United States. MTJW will be addressing how, as individuals, we attach ourselves to certain aspects of our life and present those aspects as our whole-selves, when something happens to impact those things, It changes an integral part of ourselves.

Winnie Murphy is in her third year at Sheridan College in the Bachelor of Film and Television Production program, specializing in cinematography and writing. Winnie wrote this film to get a deeper look into the hometown that shaped her as an individual. Winnie wants to show people the story her town has to tell and couldn't think of a better crew to help broadcast Dover's story.
Chris Davy is in his third year of the Film and Television program at Sheridan College. Chris grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, a bustling city where it is easy to take the number of industries and work opportunities for granted. Having learned about Port Dover and the people who live there, he is interested in exploring and sharing with you the lifestyle and culture of the small town.
Winnie Murphy: More Than Just Water is important to me because when you come from a small town, the whole town is your home. The streets where I ran through and the people I know are such an integral part of who I am. They always say it takes a village to raise a child, and Port Dover was my village, and that's the beauty of growing up in a small town. That being said, I wanted to show what is happening to Port Dover and the reality of its Industry. My Co-Director Chris Davy is such an amazing talent to have throughout this process, this film wouldn't be what it is without him; I am so happy that together we were able to tell my part of my father's story.
