Clarence Thein is a Burmese Australian film director, writer, cinematographer and editor. Born on May 20th, 2003, Clarence grew up in Sydney creating little scripted and non-scripted videos with his childhood friends. He later tried to teach himself 2D animation before discovering his love for the craft of filmmaking.
At 17 years old, Clarence produced, wrote, directed, shot and edited his first official short film, ‘Moonlit Nights’. The short was made with a shoestring budget of $200 AUD and the help of some of his friends. The short also managed to get an Official Selection at Serbest International Film Festival.
Currently Clarence is studying a Bachelor of Media Communications, Majoring in Screen Practice Production at Macquarie University. He is also in pre-production for a new short film ‘Springbound’, a character focused coming of age story.
Having no prior industry experience or connections whatsoever, Clarence is determined to learn and build up experience and skills whilst also creating meaningful connections along the way. He also aims to tell unique and original stories through the medium of film.
I feel like with the miniscule budget and the little resources I had at the time, 'Moonlight Nights' is an extremely ambitious and different short film that is able to resonate with likeminded young adults.
