Experiencing Interruptions?

Molek : Essential Transportation in Lebong Tandai Village

This documentary explores the crucial role of Molek (Lorry train) in Lebong Tandai Village, North Bengkulu, known as a gold producer. This remote village relies on Molek as the only transportation, innovated since the Dutch colonial era. With challenging topography and landslide-prone tracks, accidents are common, reflecting the government's lack of attention to track improvements. This documentary highlights the transformation of Molek's use, the dependency of the residents, and the urgency of infrastructure improvements for safety and better accessibility for the local community.

Director Statement

In working on this movie, I was inspired by the spirit of independence and innovation of the Lebong Tandai villagers. “Kereta Molek” is clear evidence that whatever is around us can be a solution if we are able to utilize it well, because waiting and staying is not the only way for the people in this village. I hope this film is not only limited to telling the story of transportation, but also as one of the “windows” for the audience to see the potential in every challenge today. The people of Lebong Tandai remind us that we are beings who until now have been able to overcome various obstacles, strive for independence and do not continue to stand idly by to face the future.
