Moksh - The Quest for Salvation

A contemporary dance film titled Moksh (meaning Salvation in the ancient Indian language, Sanskrit).
Our spiritual world, in any culture across this planet, is shaped by belief systems passed down to us since antiquity, and we blindly adhere, hoping that in the end we find the answers to all our existential questions, and attain liberation - MOKSH.
What is this end? Is there .. Moksh?
In this dance film I explore these questions through the journey of an Ascetic, a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva, who is caught in a battle between his beliefs & the unknown.

Director Biography - Bertwin Ravi D'souza, Shampa Gopikrishna

Mr.Bertwin Ravi D'souza & Miss. Shampa Gopikrishna are a Choreographer Duo from Mumbai, India. They both trained initially at the Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company, Mumbai. Bertwin continued his training at the Vertigo Dance Company, Israel and Shampa at the Laban Centre in London.
They specialise in contemporary dance, Indian classical & folk, commercial and Bollywood styles & are well known for their unique style & artistic creations in the Indian Theatre, Film and Television Industry.
Bertwin has founded the 'FLESH N BONES' movement method, which harnesses the instinctive intellect within our body to explore the raw dynamics of movement, which he uses in creating his choreographies for stage performances as well as teaching dancers, actors and movement enthusiasts globally.
Shampa has been the winner of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Indian version of Dancing with the Stars) twice - Season 5 and 7.
They have choreographed for International Artists like Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Constanza Macras and Stage Productions like Disney's Aladdin, Gandhi & Devdas and numerous other International Films and Tv shows.
Their recent work has been movement directors for the thriller webseries DAHAN on Disney Hotsar and an upcoming Sports based Bollywood feature film and choreographing for Mira Nair's Musical - Monsoon Wedding in New York, 2023.

Director Statement

We have enjoyed creating and expressing our thoughts and emotions through the medium of movement, particularly live on stage. Super excited to dive into creating films and finding new dimensions of artistic narratives.
MOKSH, was a live theatre piece choreographed, produced & performed by me, which we adapted for this dance film with my partner Miss Shampa Gopikrishna coming on board as the video director. Its aesthetic language is rooted in ancient India culture, but its narrative is simply human and relatable to anyone who questions the unknown.
It was a great experience filming this piece and we hope that it may reach many audiences and leave a strong impression on them.
