Experiencing Interruptions?

"Mixed Up"

While the incidence of interracial dating and exogamous marriages  has definitely gone up in the past decade or so, the acceptance of such relationships is still fraught with complexities of social psychology and ingrained racial prejudices.
The story is set in the 1970s, and it reveals the deep seated hostility of a white American Professor's white wife to their two daughters' boyfriends, one a Hindu Indian medical doctor and the other, a Muslim. My story also exposes the consequences of the daughters' choices and decisions and the changed landscape of modern romantic entanglements.

The movie is a slow and poetic meditation on love and race issues. It is set in the 1970s. Since the movie is a composite of American, Indian, and Iranian cultures, I got some music commissioned and took legal permission from some singers to use their works in the movie. A well known Iranian couple called Eendo gave me legal permission for their songs, and it is their song being played in the trailer. All of this was accomplished via emails by me sitting inside my home office in the US and the singers situated in Iran and India presently. I am grateful to Ardalan and Shadi from Iran and Ankur Tewari from India for giving me permission for their works. I also got some music commissioned by Arman Ali in New Delhi, India. This is a low budget independent movie I made myself. The film seeks to unify people across cultures.

My movie is a little over two hours long, and deals with race relations. Thank you to my team of actors.

I am a playwright and poet and an academician reinventing myself as a filmmaker. My work has always meant for a niche audience. This is also a slow moving independent art film, and not to contemporary taste.

I have always believed in a just and equitable world order. All of my work is about changing the hierarchical nature of the world order. In creating the movie, "Mixed Up," I hope the viewers will reexamine racial and cultural differences.

"Mixed Up" is an intercultural love story. When a white American Professor's daughter's fall in love with a Hindu doctor and a Muslim in the 1970s, the consequences of the daughters' choices and decisions reflect on the complexities of racial prejudice even in the changed landscape of contemporary romantic entanglements.

Synopsis of "Mixed Up:"

While the incidence of interracial dating and exogamous marriages has definitely gone up in the past decade or so, the acceptance of such relationships is still fraught with complexities of social psychology and ingrained racial prejudices.

In a radical departure from my previous writing style, I have tried to create a poetic rendition of intercultural love where I examine causal factors that make up romantic interracial relationships. The story reveals the deep seated hostility of a white American Professor's white wife to their two daughters' boyfriends, one a Hindu Indian medical doctor and the other, a Muslim. The story exposes the consequences of the daughters' choices and decisions and the changed landscape of modern romantic entanglements.
