MJ Tremblay is Anishinaabe and originally from Montreal. It was the Jesuit priest Rolland Boyle of Ottawa who arranged for her to be placed with a family that would care for her. Her adoption was clandestine. MJ will never know her natural family. An adoptee from the 1950s. For several years, MJ took Abenaki language classes at Native Montreal. She is a film director, photographer, singer, songwriter, actress, painter.
Coming from a family of photographers, it was at the age of nine that MJ began her first steps in photography as much in shooting as in development in the dark room. MJ is passionate about repertory cinema. She studied communications and cinema at cégep Jean-de-Brébeuf. She has directed four short films in black and white: documentary, fiction and animation. She then studied film at Concordia University. She makes four short films with Wapikoni mobile and UQAM.
She also has a BAC in dramatic art at UQAM as well as studies in singing and piano at Cégep de St-Laurent.
