Denisse Laub is a director and actress from Mar del Plata. Francisco Castro Pizzo is a film and theater director from the City of Buenos Aires. Together they’ve worked on several projects together, like “Monna Vanna” (theater play, 2019), “The Act” (short film, 2019) and “Midna” (short film, 2024). Their creations seek to have an interdisciplinary approach, mixing elements of music, film and theater, paying special attention to character creation.
MIDNA was born from the desire to tell a story about the power of transformation that your surroundings can have when a person feels abandoned. We wanted to create a plural environment in terms of ages and roles. With a strong prominence of music and a vintage and playful aesthetic, almost cartoonish, we placed the characters in a classic Mar del Plata bowling alley. We took as a reference real workers that we observed in different local bars. MIDNA is a short film with a strong feminist perspective, not only because of its main characters, but also because most of the team heads and technicians are women.
