Kris Wilson is an independent filmmaker and licensed entertainment attorney. Before entering the film and television industry, Wilson was a veteran professional football player in the National Football League. Upon retirement from the NFL, he graduated from the UCLA School of Law, where he specialized in sports and entertainment, and also graduated from UCLA School of Theater Film and Television, where he studied production directing. Today, Wilson is a freelance producer at NFL Films, where he contributes in the production of television shows such as HBO's Hard Knocks and Showtime's Inside the NFL. He currently is known for writing, directing and producing the award-wining narrative short film Mid City Blue, as well as his latest narrative short film project Smell of Summer.
MID-CITY BLUE is a fresh examination of police misconduct, and those incidents that happen all too often but don’t necessarily make the news. This raw depiction avoids the banal, creating a narrative where not a single moment feels forced or contrived, instead the plot unfolds naturally in what seems less like a gratuitous display of police brutality, and more like an impartial look at the complex realities that give way to tensions between civilians and police. At the center of this story is a struggle for and against patriotism, that loss of confidence in the criminal justice system that inevitably results from police misconduct, and the burden that African-American women must bear regardless of where they stand on the issue. MID-CITY BLUE is a short film that allows the audience to sit in the car through a “routine” traffic stop, from the vantage point of two African American characters: one who has faith in reforming the criminal justice system, and another who yearns for revolution.
