Experiencing Interruptions?

Memorial

Joey, 20, is at home celebrating his birthday with some friends when an Israeli threat suddenly interrupts his celebrations. Joey, now zoned out before his birthday cake, abruptly regains his senses, heads to his bedroom, and starts hastily grabbing valuables left and right. Following a fit of rage, he bashes his closet from which falls his photo album. He picks up the latter and starts going over its photos, which shortly after manifest in front of him. After a bunch of such manifestations, Joey’s taken aback by his favorite memory not getting manifested and looses his mind as his memories start fading one by one. Joey’s parents barge into the house and drag him out as he watches the rooms of his house, previously lit by the memories going dark, forcefully leaving everything he wanted to take with him behind.

I'm Anthony Bou Rjeily, a 20-year-old Lebanese audiovisual student from Serjbeil, Chouf District. Completed my secondary
Studies in 2023 at The Antonine Sisters’ School in
Kfarchima, my city of residence, before majoring in
Cinema & TV at the Lebanese University, Faculty of Fine
Arts and Architecture in the same year.
Through my creations, I try to evoke feelings the
viewer didn’t know resided in him. I strive to awaken
sentiments that make you question the subject or cause
I’m covering on a deeper, more intellectual level. I
find myself exceptionally clever at editing raw content
to preserve its rawness and authenticity for the
viewer. My style is quite experimental, relying on unorthodox
frames and editing styles, often conveying an eerie,
mysterious, and unearthly vibe.

Memorial is an emotionally charged project that conveys its
message by evoking feelings of nostalgia, melancholy, and coming of age in an attempt to shed light on a scenario that spread like wildfire amidst the 2024 Israeli aggressions on Lebanon; the displacement of over half a million Lebanese citizens. It helps share the story of people who were told to flee houses, offices, companies, highways, and sometimes even entire cities in less than 30 minutes. Being a highly empathetic and patriotic person who witnessed this war unfold, I only saw it fit to represent my people and show my condolences in the way
I do best, through film; this short film aims to give closure to those affected by the rival's horrors and pay honors to everything they worked so hard for and lost. The thousands of destroyed houses have one thing in common: They’re all now nothing but memorials to the lives and memories they once housed.
