Director Statement

Storytelling has always been my way of connecting with the world. Growing up in Ethiopia, I was surrounded by rich traditions, deep struggles, and untold beauty. For over two decades, I’ve lived and breathed this industry—from acting on sitcoms like YeEmama Bet and Seferachen to directing features like Ato Gete and Zema. Every step has shaped my voice and sharpened my vision.

My work is rooted in truth. I tell stories that reflect our lives, our history, and our resilience. my goal is to bring emotional honesty to the screen. I’m drawn to themes of identity, justice, and human connection—especially in the African context, where so much remains unexplored on the global stage.

I believe African cinema has the power to change perspectives, to inspire, and to heal. As a filmmaker, I carry the responsibility of representing not just my people, but also our complexity, our humor, and our dreams.

With each project, I aim to bridge tradition and innovation—to make something that is both deeply Ethiopian and universally human.
