Meet Me at the End
A teenage girl comes to a crossroads when she’s manipulated into feeling that she must choose between her sexuality and her faith.
A teenage girl named Sawyer embarks on a relationship with another girl, Carys. Although everything seems to be going her way, she hides the relationship from her ignorant mother, worried she won’t love her for who she is. Sawyer confides in her friend Eli, but rather than finding support, he feigns concern using faith to make her feel that she’ll be shunned by her mother. This leads to a deep conflict between sexuality and faith.

‘Meet Me at the End’ has a story that is very near and dear to my heart, having come from my own experience as a queer teenager and the experiences of those I love the most. My intrigue in religion and the particular predicament of the phrase “there’s no hate like Christian love” led me down the path to write this story and to incorporate my own personal experiences in it. Having seen firsthand many religious individuals using their faith, that is based in love and acceptance, dehumanise those whose lifestyles they don’t agree with made me think to myself: How can a person be so devout and preach the words of a man, who would without hesitation, house and cherish the people you’ve cast aside due to your own bigotry? Let me clarify: I am agnostic, and despite the fact that I am no longer practicing faith, the teachings of Christ and the New Testament that were drilled into me during my time in CCD, at an all girl's Catholic high school and Salesian university always stuck with me. Acceptance, forgiveness, and above all, love for our fellow humans on our little, floating rock in the universe.
At the end of the day, ‘Meet Me at the End’ is the story about someone learning to love themselves for who they are, which is what I'd want for others to do for themselves, no matter their background. Especially within the current political climate of the U.S, it is imperative to tell these stories in order to help young queers who are stuck in these situations feel heard, so they may learn to love themselves in the face of adversity, even when it seems the world is against them.
