Mediterranean Sea
Migrations in the Mediterranean are a highly complex phenomenon. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of people have crossed its waters in an attempt to reach European shores in search of a better life. These movements, which are largely irregular, take place under very dangerous conditions and without protection.
The causes of these migrations are varied. In particular, armed conflicts and wars in various regions have forced some people to embark on these desperate journeys. Persecution, famine, and a lack of significant opportunities are also motives for such movements. Often, it is the combination of these factors that leads to the decision to migrate.
The route from the coasts of North Africa and the Middle East is highly perilous, and every year thousands of people meet a tragic end during this journey.
The video I am presenting aims to commemorate those who lost their lives while seeking a better life. The dates considered range from 2016 to 2022, and the source is the International Organization for Migration (IOM) website, accessible at the link https://missingmigrants.iom.int/region/mediterranean.

I was born in 1953 and I live in Italy, in Favaro Veneto (Venice). Around the age of twenty, I approached the study of the History of Art, as an autodidact, and I began my personal photographic research. I got fascinated by the artistic Avant-garde of the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth centuries, and also the artistic currents of Minimalism and Conceptual Art.
All these artistic phenomena attracted me mostly because they focused on the analysis of the visual medium, than to the staging of reality and its representation, as the history of Art and Photography had instead accustomed us.
In recent years, I have focused on some details of the environment around me: clouds, leaves and details of everyday objects.
Lately, I have also produced some videos, which have been screened at video mapping festivals and participated in film festivals.
