Director Biography - Jelian Quincina

Jelian Quincina is a graduate of the Writing for Film, TV & Games program at Vancouver Film School - Television. She has a passion for storytelling, and enjoys bringing these tales to life. Jelian has also been included in Rianne Pictures' 75 Filmmakers to Watch in 2024 list at the Women x Film Festival.

Director Statement

The goal of Measuring Up is to initiate a conversation about weight discrimination within the Filipino community. By highlighting real-life experiences, the film seeks to challenge the cultural norm of commenting on others’ bodies and explore the impact these comments have, especially when they start at a young age and within family settings. Measuring Up aims to create space for empathy and reflection, encouraging viewers to reconsider the language around weight in Filipino culture.
