Director Biography - Randy Schmidt

Raised in California, Randy Schmidt graduated from UCLA Film School and worked at the 20th Century Fox motion picture studio before moving to Tokyo. For the past 18 years he has been a staff cameraman-editor-producer for CBS News, covering breaking news stories and making mini-documentaries. Based in Tokyo, though covering all of Asia, Randy won an Emmy Award for his TV news work in 2022. He is also a filmmaker who has been making a series of award-winning stop-motion and computer-animated short movies along with his young son Dylan.
