Matteo Falco is an Italian filmmaker, writer and multi-disciplinary artist based in Turin.
His career starts as a genuine passion in the teenage, while he is still studying in college. Starting from very selfish photography, based on the development of a precise concept or human shade - it could be the four seasons, racism, ultra-technology, despair and so on - involving multiple Turin and Milan based models, he soon starts translating this still images into sequences and come to cinema.
Initially he writes and directs - often operating as first camera man - multiple videoclips for emergent artists, then moves to editorial and studio photography. It's in these years that he truly understands his "calling", which is radically connected to the manipulation of image - both still or moving.
After college graduation he decides to study in NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) in Milan, where he can develop his amateur competences in a professional way. It's a very prolific period, in which within a couple of years - considering the COVID-19 - he writes and directs several personal and commercial works such as Porsche Taycan spot. He also arrives among the finalists in Festa del Cinema di Roma with the experimental short film "Teorema Zero", all based on archive footage and CGI.
In this period he signs his first short film "Notti Bianche", an 18 minute length film which tells the story of two men lost on a mountain wrapped up in memories and dreams.
Then it's time for him to leave commercial to concentrate on personal projects : a lot of anologic photography, sculpture and music composing, some self and co-directed short films - the most relevant of whom is "Procédure de liberation" presented at the Florence Biennale in 2021 - and his first feature film script "Terraria", a bucolic tragicomedy ambiented in 1940 at the eve of italian entry into World War II which tells the story of a small village in the "Langhe" and its spotty inhabitants that slowly dive into madness while war approaches.
After NABA he decides to return in Turin and study Philosophy, to corroborate the mostly practical competences acquired in NABA with more abstract speculation in order to gain balance in his future works.
The dominant idea of this period, the true consciousness that raises is that of being able to stay at the gate of the film, in that space called "metafilmic", always between fiction and documentary. An idea that will stay and evolve continuously.
Then follows a prolific silence of three years which is broken in 2023 with "Levità", a 62 minute experimental documentary set in the amoenus valley of Pra'd'mill at the foot of "Monviso".
