Faryl Amadeus is an award winning writer/director and native New Yorker (adopted and shipped from Kentucky, like a box of whiskey). Faryl received a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts' Experimental Theater Wing, where she learned to integrate story, performance, and visual art.
Originally a dancer with the JOFFREY BALLET, she switched course after being accepted into the famed LaGuardia High School, majoring in Visual Art and Drama. While still in school, she originated the role of Bill Gates in the musical NERDS, and following a collaboration with performance artist David Cale, she originated the role of Clea in the world premiere of FLOYD AND CLEA UNDER THE WESTERN SKY at The Goodman Theater in Chicago. Faryl has worked alongside such legends as Julie Taymor, Lynne Ramsay and Kathleen Turner.
She is the creator, writer, director and star of the TV show, FANCY NANCY'S FUNNY HOUR, and was featured as one of PAPER MAGAZINE'S MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. Faryl's debut short, MARY MEET GRACE (filmed during the pandemic), is a nod to the birth mother she was reunited with as an adult, and an exploration of what lengths an adoptee might go to to discover who and where they come from.
Coming soon: ANY SIGN AT ALL, a followup short, shot on 16mm, starring Jeanine Mason and Katy Sullivan, which focuses on a conflicted birth mother.
Faryl is additionally in post production on her third short WHEN IT'S HARD and in pre production on ALL IT TOOK and her upcoming debut feature PÂLE.
Stay tuned at the top of the new year for her playing sisters in Joe Maggio's long awaited twenty year sequel to Virgil Bliss: BLISS.
Inspired by my own experience reuniting with my birth mother, the seed of my film began as an examination of the intense yearning an adoptee might go through to know more about their past.
Mary Meet Grace is very personal. I'm thrilled to include the Lucinda William's song "Mama You Sweet" in the movie. And equally excited about having my very own birth mother play Mary at the end. (Spoiler!) I hope you enjoy the film as much as we enjoyed making it.
