Marigold: The Tale of God's Flower
Marigold: The Tale of God's Flower
In a quiet village, an aging, impoverished farmer nurtures marigolds on a small patch of his land, hoping the harvest will sustain him for months to come. With sacks full of vibrant blooms, he ventures into the local market—only to face rejection. The marigold, he’s told, is a flower of death, tied to ancient Tamil customs. As buyers turn him away, he is left heartbroken and desperate, trying to sell his flowers for next to nothing. Eventually, defeated, he abandons the sacks near a market waste bin and walks away.
But the marigold’s journey doesn’t end there. The discarded flowers are picked up, dried, and transformed into incense sticks—rising later as sacred smoke in prayer rituals, reaching the very God he once hoped to serve.
Moral: If a flower is destined to reach God, even when discarded, it will find its way.
Soul: No matter our color, caste, or circumstance—we are all human, and destined to be only that: human.

Vivek – Filmmaker
Vivek is an emerging filmmaker and experienced first assistant director with a career spanning over six years in the Tamil film industry. He has played a key role in the creation of the feature film Mayan.
Beyond his work as an assistant director, Vivek has established himself as a director of award-winning short films. His short Pen Parkum Padalam received accolades for Best Short Film and Best Cinematography at multiple film festivals.
Continuing his creative journey, Vivek recently directed Marigold: The Tale of God's Flower, marking a significant milestone in his filmmaking career.
Marigold: The Tale of God's Flower is a story about transformation—both literal and symbolic. At its surface, it follows the quiet struggle of a poor farmer whose livelihood is dismissed by the weight of cultural perceptions. Beneath that, it is an exploration of how objects—and by extension, people—carry meanings imposed by society, meanings that can shift in unexpected ways.
I want to capture the raw textures of rural life, the stillness of a man’s hope, and the silent violence of rejection. The marigold, considered here as a "flower of death," becomes a powerful metaphor: what the world discards as unwanted can still find purpose and sanctity. The transition from the bustling market streets to the meditative image of incense smoke rising in prayer is not just a narrative arc but an emotional one—from despair to unintended grace.
This film is not about loud heroics. It’s about the invisible lives on the margins, the cultural layers that shape our choices, and the beauty that can emerge from neglect. I want the audience to leave questioning how value is defined and where redemption can be found—even in what we throw away.
