Migrating from a very different background as a solo practitioner and entrepreneur, Margarita MH reinvented herself and became a filmmaker. After the pandemic, MH started her own internal journey and making decisions to accomplish her ultimate goal: doing what she really loves and following her passion. With her stage background as a Theater actress, director, and children's storyteller, MH self-realized that her passion for movies was not only to stay as a spectator, but also by creating them.
In 2022, It is Sunny! The Show with Margarita MH podcast was born and by sharing her transformation story, creating characters, and sharing behind the scenes of some of her favorite movies, she decided to take a leap of faith and became a self-thought filmmaker.
In May of 2023, MH was firmly determined to make a movie and without any formal school and connections in the industry, she was able to write her first script, hired crew and talent and started rolling. Thanks to FUSE (Filmmakers United in Southeast Houston) and founder David Clark, MH connected with talent and crew for the project. MH is also thankful that she connected with Alfred Cervantes, Executive Director of the Houston Film Commission, who gracefully showed her local resources such as the Houston Media Conference (HMC), the Houston Cinema Arts Society, Southwest Alternative Media Project, the Women in Film & Television, among other organizations. During the 2023 Houston Media Conference, MH made more connections and hired additional crew and talent.
MH debuts as screenwriter, producer, and director of The Wild Onions. MH is deeply grateful that all her crew and cast trusted in her project, and that things can be done, only if you "truly believe in it." This production wasn't exempt from challenges; however, they were immediately reshaped to wonderful opportunities and lessons learned.
MH was awarded as the Best First-Time Female Filmmaker of the 20th seasonal IMDb and nominee of the 2024 Toronto International Women Film Festival.
MH is a member of the Houston Cinema Arts Society, Southwest Alternate Media Project, and Rotary Club of Space Center.
