Make a Wish is a warm and surreal, comic exploration of reproductive anxiety and the pressure to have it all figured out. Through absurd humour, I wanted to capture the emotional whiplash of indecision around motherhood—how painful, and profound it can be. I hope Make a Wish helps anyone facing similar crossroads feel seen, understood, and less alone.
The film combines tactile physical sets in warm, embracing pink hues, with a bold, 2D animated Womb character, a physical stop-motion animated Sausage and a Period Poo Genie character which combines a glittery clay body with a 2D animated face.
The film's aesthetic was designed to evoke beauty, and act as a warm embrace when dealing with an often taboo subject matter. The choice of the characters was to subvert the expectation of dealing with a difficult subject, and in many ways take away the weight and power it has over people struggling with the indecision.
