E. Amato (she/her) is a bad capitalist curious about radical consent and wild inclusion. Her grounded SciFi pilot Majority Rules is a Creative Screenwriting Unique Voices Genre Winner and a Semifinalist for The Writers Lab. She is the editor of Judith Weston’s 25th Anniversary Edition of Directing Actors.
She earned a BFA in Film from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and a Certificate in Directing from the American Film Institute. Hit by a drunk driver at the end of her first year at the AFI, she began a lifetime engagement with chronic pain and decreasing mobility. Despite these challenges, E. Amato continued and deepened her creative work, production work as a script supervisor on over 20 indie features, and her community work with foster youth and youth poets. E. Amato has three published poetry collections, produced and performed in consecutive 5-star shows at the Festival Fringe Edinburgh, and spent years as a touring poet.
Some of E. Amato’s favorite coping mechanisms are plant-based eating and cooking, yoga, mindfulness, coffee, doing her best, working for collective liberation, bingeing Selling Sunset, and the Criterion Collection. She buys too many cute mugs and bowls, which she ends up leaving with friends all over the globe, cause you really can’t take it with you.
My writing celebrates subcultures, especially youth subcultures, in bold narratives told through the gaze of multi-dimensional women characters.
