Director Statement

WITCHES is co-written by myself and other members of Major Labia Productions (Phoebe Frances Brown, Gemma Caseley-Kirk and Narisha Lawson). It uses comedy to explore the way that capitalism has co-opted feminism and sold it back to us, devoid of its liberatory politics. It is also very silly!

As a writer and director I am drawn to exploring issues facing women in a light-hearted way that reframes the narrative and allows for a wider engagement. WITCHES is my directorial debut for film and it arose from years of presenting this story as a sketch on stage. It is well suited to film and hopefully presents ideas around women being taught to police each other in the name of feminism in a comic way.
