Director Statement

Connor N. F. Field:
I have always loved being able to show my creative side, it is something I am most proud of about myself. After I got into college, however, I realized I didn’t have much to show for it, just small things here and there, but I was never able to stick through and carry out a large scale project. “Maid to Kill” was me deciding I needed find something and stick to it, but I didn’t think I could do it alone, so thats why I asked Pranav to make it with me, because I knew he would help keep me on track.
I believe I flourish in absurdism, that style of comedy has always appealed to me. That’s why I wanted this project to embody that, so I could grow my skills as a comedy writer. For “Maid to Kill”, I contributed some of the outlandish scenes that you see throughout the film. I worked on the visuals mostly including cinematography, editing, costume design, and the graphic design.
I wanted the audience to just have fun while watching it, but still enjoy a plot strung full or relatable and empathic characters. I applied meta-modernist views to this, and wanted “Maid to Kill” to have a large intersection of comedic and dramatic moments.
Through this Behemoth of a project, I have learned my creative process, my style of writing, and the importance of actionable direction. This project I am very proud of and believe that I have grown from it in so many ways. “Maid to Kill” serves as a testament to my self, and my own ability to see things through.

Pranav Krishnan:
“Maid to Kill” is my directorial debut and will always have a special place in my heart. It explored the creative side of my personality and created an entertaining & long-lasting story.. It’s allowed me to find my exact style of storytelling and learn the lesson: “Proper preparation creates intentionally good art.”
My intent was to showcase a story of an extremely flawed character, Decade, and doom him from the start. To me, this circumstance is very, very human. Decade spends his entire life waiting for a chance to prove himself to the world and to gain the respect of his peers and his family, working his life away. To me, these stories are human. I love to make stories dictating the realism of life. Themes like the fragility of identity, guilt, grief, failure, and doom are dark and unsettling, but any person can relate heavily. I wanted to tell a story that was genuinely human, and “Maid to Kill” embodied it well. Some of the artistic choices I contributed were creating a psycho-rave beat to a creepy killing scene, an Edgar Wright sequence, and the chilling ending.
Making the alleged longest student feature-length movie in my college’s history did not come without challenges. The stress of writing a full script, hiring random people to join our project, dealing with Imposter Syndrome, tight schedules, built-up resentment, and not achieving perfection caused major problems for me. It made me want to end this project multiple times, and yet, I persevered. This project serves as the catalyst of everything else I will achieve.
