Mahwash

MAHWASH is a feature documentary film that follows the life of the legendary Afghan singer Mahwash.

This documentary will take us on a journey of Mahwash’s personal and professional life, exploring her struggles as a female singer in a very strict and religious family and a community full of stereotypes. The story begins with Mahwash’s teenage life, continues to the time she decides to become a singer and follows her to the present day.

At age 73, and with a life full of struggles, Mahwash dreams to go back to Afghanistan to sing one last time for her fans in Kabul. The horrible security situation in Afghanistan, with the fall of Kabul in the hands of Taliban, has put that dream in jeopardy. This documentary will reveal whether or not Mahwash will achieve her goal.
