Mahbuba Maqsoodi
Getting a daughter in Afghanistan is said to bring disaster. Yet the fate of thousands of Afghan girls was not for Mahbuba to bear: her parents did not sell her, and she could choose her husband herself. Shaped by three cultures –the Afghan, the Russian and the German society- Mahbuba rose to become an artist whose glass paintings adorn sacred buildings in Europe and in the United States.
