Marguerite and her sisters, hidden in Brittany, their parents deported to Auschwitz, where their mother was murdered. The film, a four voices oratorio, tells the story of simple people touched by the destructive rays of History.
MYRIAM TANGI is born, works and lives in Paris as painter, photographer, and poet.
« Tu sais quel jour on est aujourd’hui ? » (Do you knaw what day it is today ?) (co-directing, screenplay, photo) is my first documentary film. - Four sisters hidden in Brittany while their parents are deported to Auschwitz. The mother did not return.
Graduate in drawing from the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, my paintings have won numerous awards, including a prize from the Fondation de la Vocation, a bronze medal from the City of Paris, awards from the Taylor Foundation, the Charles Oulmont foundation, a fellowship from the Renée and Léon Baumann foundation, and WIZO’s first prize.
The general title of my current painting is “From Body to Sign”.
I have experimented photography from early in my career, for which I received numerous grants from the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute, the Fondation du Judaïsme Français, the Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah, the Institut Alain de Rothschild.
I traveled to Yemen, India, the former USSR, and the USA, among others.
Like in her paintings, my photographic approach consists in series, through which I explores various facets of my identity, as a Jew, as a woman and as an artist:
« The last Jews of Yemen » (1983/1984/1986 – awarded at IPA 2014) – « Me. Mona Lisa » (2007/2008/200) - « Migrants/Refugees » (2016 – awarded at SIPA and IPA 2017) - « Dog’s Level » (2017) - « Soweto » (2017, awarded at IPA, PX3, 2018 and Tokyo 2017) – « Urban Intimacy at Paris Plage » (2011 – awarded at IPA 2017)
My series “Mehitza. Seen by women” were exhibited in New York, in Morocco and at the MAHJ in Paris. A book (Engl. and Fr.) is published at Gefen Publishing Jerusalem
“Mehitza” and “Migrants.Refugees” awards at SIPA 2017 and IPA
When I started my photographic essay « Mehitza. Seen by women » (finalist SIPA 2017) (the separation between men and women in the synagogue - exhibited at the MAHJ Paris in 2015, (published in 2016 awarded IPA 2017), I was both conscious and enthusiastic to realize that this work could exclusively be done by a woman photographer.
The aesthetic problematic being : how to photograph distance and separation ? (as a vision and not as documentary).
All series are in black and white films (recently also digital)
My artworks have been displayed in France and abroad, notably in Rome and Montreal, New York, and are part of private collections in France, Italy, Israel, Montreal, and New York.
I give lectures and master classes.
With poetry,I develops another source of creativity.
I published three books of poems,
- “Le Ciel en désordre”1996 - received an award from Académie française, in 2007
- “Encre nocturne, mille et une”, 1998
- “Corps de mémoire” (poems and watercolors) 2010

I lead writing workshop and created the first “Café.Ecriture”, a writing workshop in a cafe in Paris: “Jouer à écrire pour s’écrire” (Let’s play write and write ourselves); I also facilitates various creative writing workshops.
