MODERN MOVEMENT

“MODERN MOVEMENT” is the audio-visual project aims to re-think and demonstrate the relationship between the Human and Machine as natural and technological sides of modernity. Humans created machines by reproducing their ability to move. Movement is what we still share. We create through movement (whether it is physical work, dance or painting). “MODERN MOVEMENT” is based on the parallels between human movement (ballet dancers) and machinery movement (production machines on the factory), their shared aesthetic and dynamics of the process of “creation”.
The soundtrack titled “First Machine” by British composer Day Hollings (aka Akinsa) is based on machine learning and aims to examine the process of collaboration between the human and AI through creation of music score.
The project is planned to be showcased as two-channel projection on the opposite walls (where one wall is dedicated to Human and other - to Machine). Both channels are highly synchronized, they are like two particles in quantum entanglement: machine and human are imitating and simultaneously completing each other in perpetual movement demonstrating invisible bounds…
Body was the only available “technology” used by the human for a long time. Mechanics, machinery, robotics and lasers refer to industrial era and a huge leap in progress and technology development. Alongside the soundtrack which is based on machine learning and presentation of two imageries as projections, this project tells a story of progress moving forward from natural through highly technological to the digital world of data.
