Nicole Midori Woodford is a film director and writer with 15 years of experience working on short films, commercials, television and feature films. She did her BFA(Hons) in Filmmaking in Singapore and is pursuing a MA(Screenwriting) at London Film School while developing her second feature film. Previously she was a lecturer, mentoring undergraduate filmmaking students at School of Art, Media and Design at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.
This short film marks a pivotal moment in my development as writer and director, a deliberate creative pause between my first feature film which premiered in 2023 and my second feature which im currently writing. I also wanted to experiment with form, refine my voice, and take the kind of artistic risks that working filmmakers can rarely afford. After directing several classical short films, commercials and my feature, I felt that I needed to push myself further to find a new voice. This project would utilise a kinetic, visceral approach with the camera to externalise the inner chaos of new motherhood. I wanted to depict the relentless negotiation between career, identity, and self. What is significant for me is this would be my first short film after becoming a motherhood not long ago. This would be a journey of curiosity as well as the inertia of intense creative energy as a mother who has also found a new voice as a filmmaker and storyteller.
