MARIO'S SONG
Poor boy Mario Da Costa, a star athlete and A-student, secretly rendezvous with his blue blood girlfriend Christina every day at a park. The day that Mario receives a college athletic scholarship is the same day he finds out Christina is pregnant. Mario and Christina get married and move in with his parents. Christina gives birth to a baby boy and they name him Francisco after Mario's dad.
When Mario's fisherman father drowns at sea, Mario and his family fall on hard times. Working nights as a janitor, Mario’s G.P.A. plummets, causing him to lose his scholarship. His family facing eviction, Mario approaches Domingos, a cool but lethal drug dealer, about joining his crew. With Mario's smarts, he quickly becomes Domingos' lieutenant. Fearful of Mario’s deepening involvement with Domingos, Christina begs her parents to allow her and her son to come
home.
Expanding their operation, Mario and Domingos run smack into Cesar, the local drug kingpin. Murdering Domingos' gay partner Tito in front of him, Cesar demands 60 percent of Domingos' narco profits. Fueled by revenge, Domingos and Mario meet with Cesar for dinner. Domingos stabs Cesar to death and takes over his entire turf. One night, Mario is arrested in a police sting. The D.A.'s offer - provide states' evidence on Domingos who treats him like a brother or do serious time in gladiator academy. At a high stakes drug deal with the Asian triads, the police raid it. Domingos winds up dead and Mario is paralyzed.
Months later, in the park where they first met, Mario and Christina reunite. She wants to give their marriage another try. He feels like a complete failure. Christina convinces Mario that despite the wrong decisions he made, they don't define him. She convinces him that he can still be the dedicated husband and father that he always wanted. Feeling the love in Christina's words, Mario agrees to be a family again.
