Director Statement

I love challenges! And most of the short films I have directed in the past have been created in 24hrs competition. This time I wanted a bit "more time" so I chose to participate in and direct a film within the 2021 48hr Film Project. 48 hours is a challenge I wanted to take on. It is also good for the creative mind to gather a few of your friends and create something overnight that you can be proud of.

The main challenge when making this short film was, of course, the aggressive schedule. This meant sleepless nights. Other challenges included coming up with a story with the required elements that were shared moments before the clock started ticking.

Working with these actors and actresses was special because it was their first time acting. But I knew based on their personalities that they could do it. It was important for me to build trust with them from the start by giving them the freedom to speak in their native language. It was the right call and made them feel more comfortable with their performance when they struggling with the dialogue in English.

Working with this crew was fun because everyone had the same drive from the beginning until the end. Even in the very late/early hours of filming and editing we stayed in good spirits which helped a lot.

While watching this film, I wanted the viewer to experience something unexpected. And even though we didn't have time to create a fully fleshed out script at the beginning, we were able to achieve that editorially.

I'm happy with the experience of working on this film and have taken away learnings that will help me with future projects.
