Director Biography - Florian Kasperski

It took Ulysses 10 years to find his way back to Ithaca – Similarly, it has taken me 10 years to stumble my way through several different professions and paths, only to arrive where it all began. In the place where 24 frames flicker every second.
Since the age of 4, when I first laid eyes on Bagheera and Baloo in the 1967 version of The Jungle Book, I have been mesmerised by stories. 24 years and two English literature- and one filmmaking degree later, I find myself ready for the first time to tell my own stories.

Director Statement

I wanted to make Lunatics because my time in high school left me socially isolated and with a deep longing for a tribe to belong to (don’t we all?). Back then, it seemed like my only value as a human were my grades. I wanted to tell a story that provides comfort to anyone who has ever felt like the metrics of society didn’t adequately reflect their potential – Because life isn’t just biology and algebra. Lunatics is an ode to everything else; passions, dedications, weird hobbies and most of all the people next to you in the trenches of life.
