Michael "AMA Psalmist" Akinrogunde, nicknamed the ‘Silver Bullet”, is a 2015 graduate of Mechanical Engineering, from the prestigious Covenant University.
He is a trained and practicing award winning 26-year old filmmaker, with cores in directing, producing and screenwriting.
Upon graduation, Michael has been involved in media and film. He served at the Eagles HOPE Foundation as the Associate, Marketing and Media. He then went on to become a finalist in the We Are Water Film Festival 2015, powered by UNICEF and ROCA, qualifying as the one of the only two Nigerians, from over 40 countries.
He was one of 5 winners of the Accelerate Filmmaker project 2017, where he wrote, directed and produced his first short film, Penance, that was premiered at the Africa International Film
Festival, won the best short film at the Africa Movie Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2018, and has had amazing acceptance globally. He was selected as a finalist in the Nigeria Film and
Integrity Awards, Homevida workshop at Pan-Atlantic University where he was trained by Google and USAID on screenwriting.
He was also nominated for The Future Awards Africa 2018, for the prize for screen producer.
Furthermore, his film Penance was nominated and won the best short film, at the premiere edition of The Film Gala hosted by Filmhouse cinemas and Moet and Chandon.
He has also made the film, Gana Street League, which premiered at the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards, Homevida, supported by Google and USAID, where it was well-received and is currently doing festival rounds. Recently, he worked as Director and Lead Screenwriter on Puzzled, a Pan African TV Series, an initiative of Youth Bridge Foundation, funded by Open Society Initiative for West Africa, OSIWA. He also is the director of the critically acclaimed pilot to the TV series, Hunter's Game.
He was 2021’s highest grossing director at the box office, for his cinema debut, The Ghost and The Tout Too, the sequel to the 2018 box office blockbuster. He also directed Netflix’s hit
documentary, The Making of A King, which ranked Top 10 on Netflix for almost two weeks.
Finally, he is excited to collaboratively make more films with strong African narratives that influence culture, politics, and better living across the world.
