Writer Biography - Kelsey Nerrie

Kelsey Nerrie has a storied career across the film industry in addition to excursions into the private sector, publishing, and motherhood. She is a reader and writer at her core.
Growing up, she lived in her local library. Her dark humor was shaped by British comedy and her love of spectacle and comedic/paranormal was influenced by film/tv of the 90s and 2000s.
Kelsey’s writing style stems from a love for literary prose and traditional narrative structures as well as dry wit amid tragedy. Confronting our true selves is an overarching theme in most of her writing. She does not tie herself down to a single genre but instead explores those truths in whichever genre will resonate with her characters and the journeys on which they lead her.

Writer Statement

Mythology played a big part in my love story with literature and storytelling. This is my take on a tragic, mythic love story.
This script melds romance with mythological characters, old magic, and an exploration of the dark sides of desire -- and of humanity in general. My intention is to prompt audiences to think about love in all its forms, action as well as inaction, and to incite discussion and debate. As in most of my work, I address themes of action and consequence, asking the question: what is a person willing to do for the ones they love? And what consequences might those actions have, if they take them? In addition to these themes, addressed via a pair of romantic lovers, I also aim to explore a woman's power and agency. Selene is, on the face, an evil character. But there is more to delve into and explore there, as well. Why has she done what she's done? It is a period piece intentionally. What choices did women have in her time? Not many! Niki, and Selene, too, present a spectrum of opposites. While one is chaste and sweet, the other is confident and cunning. At first glance, one is in the "right" and the other in the "wrong;" I wish to upend assumptions and get the audience thinking about everyone's motivations. And to do so in a beautiful way.
