Love Tasting
Its the last week of school in a small polish town's junior high school. Waiting for the final party, several students pass the time at a city pool, as if anticipating the emotional whirlwind they are about to experience. The action takes place somewhere in Poland, where ‘LGBT free zones’ are a reality in 2020. It’s a story about young people, their problems and romantic endeavours in the era of the Internet and social apps, when creating genuine relationships is unnaturally difficult.

Dawid Nickel - born in 1988 in Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Poland; studied at Krzysztof Kieslowski Film School in Katowice and Andrzej Wajda Film School in Warsaw; worked with Malgorzata Szumowska (‚Body/Cialo’ and ‚Mug’). In his practice he opens up the characters whose image in Poland used to be seen through violent stereotypes due to their marginal social positions. The protagonists in his stories relate to the small town life and non-normative sexuality. His first production ‚Filipka’ - a documentary about his gender fluid friend, premiered this year at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw
I took up this subject for my debut, since it is based on my personal experiences and depicts the environment I was raised in and struggled. Its a story about young people and their problems in the times of the Internet, friend apps, and romantic prospects, over a period when creating genuine relations is unnaturally difficult. The action takes place somewhere in Poland, where 'LGBT free zones' are a reality in 2020. A portrait of modern day junior high school students who have a lot in common with each other and the rest of the world - they all seek love, a sense of belonging and affinity.
