Lotte & Totte

Lotte & Totte is an acclaimed animated feature for pre-school audiences that has proven its strong festival appeal.

The film premiered at major international A-festivals including Cinekid (Amsterdam), Nordische Filmtage Lübeck, and Black Nights Film Festival (Tallinn), and went on to sell more than 63,000 cinema tickets in Denmark alone, making it one of the most successful pre-school children’s films in Denmark in recent years.

Story:

Lotte’s world is turned upside down when a baby brother arrives and her family moves away from everything she knows.

Lost and lonely, she cannot imagine this new life ever feeling like home — or that she will ever find new friends again.

That all changes when she meets Totte, the energetic boy next door. With new happiness in her life, they play from sunrise to bedtime, building a close bond through small everyday adventures.

But one careless mistake breaks their friendship.

Realizing that Totte is her first true friend, Lotte must find the courage to fix what was broken — before it’s too late.

A warm, emotionally grounded story about change, friendship and growing up, Lotte & Totte speaks directly to young children and their families, offering a gentle, recognizable introduction to big emotions in a small child’s world.

Director Biography - Mia Fridthjof, Christian Kuntz

With over 20 years of experience in the film industry, I've had the privilege of working in various facets of the field - from assistant roles to leadership positions. This journey has intensified my love for the power of storytelling, and I've found my true passion in bringing stories to life.
My dedication is particularly strong when it comes to children as I have three young daughters (8,10,12) who are a constant source of inspiration.
In recent years, I've spent all my time and energy in the developing, writing and directing of my feature film debut “Lotte & Totte”.

Director Statement

As a mother of three and a former cinema booker, I’ve spent seven years writing and directing my debut film "Lotte & Totte" for one purpose: to give the youngest audience their first true cinema—and film—experience. I want them to meet a complete story, rich with emotion, on the big screen—something bigger and warmer than the endless stream of small-screen clips.

Today’s preschool media overflows with action and fantasy, yet ordinary children’s feelings are still rare. Parents tell me how refreshing it is when heroes aren’t animals, fairies, or superheroes, and when the pacing leaves room to breathe. That insight shapes every frame of Lotte & Totte.

The film works in layers: playful discovery for toddlers; an emotional journey for slightly older kids who recognise Lotte’s move to a new town and her search for a friend; and gentle humour plus a splash of nostalgia for parents and grandparents. It shows that small milestones—finding courage, coping with loneliness, trying again—can be as captivating as any dragon or spaceship.

Made for children aged 2–9, Lotte & Totte is tailor-made for festivals that celebrate animation and invite families to share the darkened auditorium together. I believe young feelings deserve the same grandeur as epic adventures, and I hope you’ll help me bring this doorway to wonder out into the world.
