Director Statement

"Sin Estar" is a thesis project that was carried out as part of the Digital Film Production Bachelor's program at the University of Monterrey. The team consisted of four individuals who served roles in the crew as producer, director, director of photography, and sound designer/sound engineer.

The story of "Sin Estar" revolves around a recently graduated young woman who feels a great uncertainty about her professional future. The idea for the project arose precisely because all the team members, including myself, were in our last year of university, and among the many topics we were interested in for the thesis, the feeling of uncertainty stood out, as we felt lost and anxious about everything that the future entailed.

Writing and directing this story helped me a lot to grow as a director, especially in the relationship with the actors and how to communicate with them and guide them into their characters. Besides this, it helped me emotionally process the fact that, just like the character, in a few months, I would be a newly graduated filmmaker, with many aspirations but much uncertainty about the professional path. It was a challenging process, but undoubtedly one of the most interesting experiences I've been able to have.

My goal with the story was to reach more young people who were going through this process like us and remind us all that we are not alone and that it is very normal to feel the way we do, as it is part of the process of maturing and beginning to face adult life.

"Sin Estar" will always be very special to me, not only because I was able to address such a personal topic but also because I am very grateful for all the effort, people, and contacts that came out of the production of this project. Specifically, working with such a talented crew and the actresses who gave their all to portray these characters.
