Director Statement

Lost in Shanghai is a love letter to Shanghai, the reason I moved to Shanghai actually is just like what happened to Yuki in the film, I watched the film Myth of Love and decided to move. Living in Shanghai never just gives me good experiences, sometimes this city gives me a really hard time, and we have been through some together too. At first, I feel exhausted and confused about living here, but the more I explore, the more I fell in love. Shanghai is not a city that will give you a cozy warm cup of chocolate, but it always gives you space to be yourselves. Plus, living here is kinda like NYC, no one cares even if you swim in the sky.
This film is strongly influenced by mumblecore films like France Ha, Funny Haha, Puffy Chairs, and Drinking Buddies. I will call it my little experience of bringing this genre to Chinese Indie Film Scene
