Long Term
'Long Term' is a short 'expressionist' film in the tradition of David Lynch. It tells the story of domestic violence and family breakdown and the journey of a young girl into the Child Protection system . It develops themes of the resilience of youth as we see her emerge into adult hood. The sensitive themes in this film are represented symbolically using a carnival or circus motif. It is in essence a silent film with a strong vocal leitmotif that supports the journey of young 'DD'. It has an original soundtrack developed by myself and 'Rare Child' a Melbourne folk band. I was inspired to make this film by my families involvement as emergency carer's in the foster Care system.

Hannigan Heycox grew up in a small farming town in Australia with no real recognition of the arts. despite this Hannigan still began to develop an interest at a young age in classic film, the films of Federico Fellini, Buster Keaton, Robert Wiene, the quay brothers and more. After taking an interest in the special effects of Ray Harryhausen Hannigan began experimenting with stop motion; making his first short film 'After death' a crude frame by frame animation of a skull in a hell like atmosphere undergoing many tortures devised by the mind of the skull itself, its message was somewhat unclear however as it has remained unfinished despite being produced. He has since made a number of stop motion, then live action short films of varying quality including, The Sompnours Tale, Miscreant, Flob, Vermilion Murmers, Mr Botchy sandbag, Small change, After death, Hell in mind, Long term and much more 'well a few more anyway'. He is now in the process of returning to his 'frame by frame animation' roots in an untitled experimental piece currently in pre-production, hopefully through much practice "outdoing anything i have done before, stop motion wise anyway".
