Long Pork
Long Pork follows the story of a successful butcher with a world renowned Steakhouse and a dark secret: when a male predator of interest visits, she invites them to her butchery. Lily lures powerful male predators into her kitchen and butchers their bodies to serve. Phillip arrives to dine one day, eager for delicious meat, unaware that Lily has been hunting him for a long time. This is a story about motherhood, grief, and the complexities of seizing power as a woman in a male-dominated world.
We aim to open up the dark underbelly of the female experience. Rape culture. Femicide. Socially permissible violence against women. The media I ingest tells me that this is acceptable. A lifetime of growing up consuming content by the male gaze. Every woman in some capacity can recognize the sick sharp pang to the gut of impending doom - feeling like prey in the guise of men’s eyes. I walk down the street feeling as if I have a target on my back. I am close to a number of survivors of sexual assault. This is not uncommon. Long Pork reshapes horror in the female gaze – pulling on the horrors of femininity to create the ultimate monster, or hero? A woman who dares to refuse to be prey, but rather takes on the role of hunter. I believe in the power of horror to challenge society's preconceived ideas regarding feminine justice and accountability.
