Director Biography - Sai Kesavamatham

I have always been drawn to the art of story telling. I believe story telling is part of the human genetic code. My first memories are of me narrating stories to friends and family as a five year old kid, growing up in the by-lanes of a small town in rural India. I grew up watching neighborhood theater artists perform live and remember being in awe of the playwrights and with the whole craft of theater production. This gradually turned into a passion of film making, with me devouring tons of books on the craft and watching gazillion movies from all corners of the world. While I could not make it my profession, due to missed opportunities, I have never lost love for films and film making.

Finally, in 2018, I decided to take a plunge and turn my dormant knowledge into a tangible product. I gathered a group of friends and family and shot my first short film in 3 days with a crew of 3. Since then, I created multiple short films of various lengths with various friends and colleagues who were kind enough to indulge me in my efforts.

I revel in all aspects of film making and most of my films have me donning multiple hats - writing, editing, VFX, camera and of course my favorite part - the direction. More recently, I have been dabbling in music as well and thoroughly enjoying it.

Little Treasures is a story about life's endless surprises and the beauty in its fragility. Life's all about savoring the fleeting but endless moments of joy. In this film, I tried capturing this essence as a day in the life of a father and his young daughter. The idea for this story was inspired from an incident that I encountered in my past on a chilly wintry morning.

I believe that the art of film making is deeply rooted in its visual appeal. Compared to any other media, film making allows one to connect with the audience with a unique technique of visual story telling. For this film, I wanted to take up the challenge of portraying the emotion and conveying the message, purely using the visual medium, with zero dialog.

This is a very low budget short film made under $50, with a running length of under two minutes. It has been shot entirely on iPhone X with Filmic Pro, with a team size of four, that includes two cast members and the music director. I filled in for all other roles including camera, editing, vfx and of course the direction.

For those that are interested, I have used the following gear for this film.
iPhone X
Moment anamorphic lens
Zhiyun crane plus gimbal
Final Cut Pro X for editing and VFX

Hope you enjoy the film!
