Director Statement

As a Syrian Immigrant who arrived in Canada three years ago, this story was personal to me and relatable to the extent that I had to highlight their story through film. It's a pleasure to direct a film about your beloved country and people from your country.

This documentary explores themes of the father and son relationship, generational similarities, struggle and persistence through war and immigration, redemption, having faith in your passion, and The Canadian Dream.

Once I learned about Abdullah's and Zaher's story, I started developing a documentary script and laying out the structure in October 2023. Since then I have done some research on the internet and met with Abdullah. Initially, my vision was to focus on the topic of The Canadian Dream and how much the Canadian Government has provided to the family since the outbreak of the war back in Syria. Eventually, we made "The Canadian Dream" a secondary theme and focused more on the father and son bond, what they share in common, how the son left his education to help his parents with their business, and how proud the father is of his son for helping him continue his legacy in Canada. Six months later of planning, filming, and post-production, the documentary is ready to be screened to the world.
