Like Angels with Burning Wings
A young woman, Ella, is accidentally killed in an act of rage by the town bully, Jarod, who harbors an unrequited crush. Supernatural occurrences give her the ability to right this wrong and say goodbye.
Ella and her grandmother Mima own the town’s favorite restaurant, Jake’s Diner. All from families to the local politicians and first responders eat their breakfast and lunch there. Ella also attends University online with aspirations of being a writer. She has dated her boyfriend Dylan since their school days. He is in the Army serving and learning to be an Aviation Officer flying Apache Helicopters. After hours it is a hangout spot for Ella and friends for their impromptu jam sessions. A happy and thoughtful person, she also enjoys feeding the animals in the woods on the way to her home with leftovers from the Diner. These animals though are not of the ordinary kind though.
When the town bully Jarod and his friends, Lan and Lee drive in a fit of rage towards Ella walking down the road towards accidentally kills her. The Animal Friends save her and reveal themselves to be her chosen Animal Spirit Guides. These Animal Friends help transform her into their beings to settle the burden of her untimely death. The Land Animal Spirit Guides – her Snowshoe Rabbit, Grey Wolf, Brown Bear, White Snow Fox and Raccoon represent the physical and emotional grounding and are linked to intuition and vigilance. The Bird Animal Spirit Guide – her Golden Eagle are symbolic of strength and desire. The Water Animal Spirit Guides – her Wood Frog, is spiritual and truthful. The Reptile Spirit Animals Guides- her Blue-spotted Salamander helps both internally and externally. The Insect Spirit Animals Guides – her Winter Dark Fireflies help with persistence, determination and transform her into the others with her remaining lifeforce.
Their combined beings give back to the bullies the fear, pain and abandonment that was Ella’s last days. And in her final moments, they help the police in their search for Ella find her conclusive end. With a final gift to her beloved grandmother, Mima, the Animal Friends reveal to her that they have kept Ella’s soul safe within one of their own, and Mima recognizes the her granddaughter will always be with her, watching over her.

Kellasandra Ferrara is a former restaurateur and baker who's been jotting down recipes, lyrics & musings forever but finally decided to subject herself onto an unwilling audience. Her debut collection, the Award winning Time Spent Under My Broken Umbrella is an offering of Poetry, Essays and other Musings and is all about Time - Time dreamt of, loved, lost, misspent and even the expiration of it. Moments in my life where I've come to accept the time I have already used and defend what is left.
Her second book, called Time Spent Under My Broken Sky is a Short Fiction Collection of a Supernatural Mystery, a Crime Thriller, a Science Fiction Drama and a Re-imagined Fairy Tale, launched in July 2025. Both available on Amazon and where books are sold.
The Cookbook is still on a perpetual shelf but she is happy to help with any cooking fiasco.
