Matrena Kashkina worked in medicine for 29 years, she was a nurse. In her free time from work, she was engaged in photography, organized photo exhibitions. In 2020, she had her first solo exhibition "Kutan", where a series of photographs about gray herons was presented. The film "Life in the Herd" is her debut work as a director, cameraman and editor.
