J is a 3rd year undergraduate cinema major at San Francisco State University. Spending nearly 25 years as a professional photographer and image maker, he went back to school at 38 to find a new creative groove. J is working to become a feature-length narrative film director with an emphasis on telling stories not typically represented on screen. His award-winning queer short film, "Dream Upon Waking" was an exploration of the indomitable creative spirit that lives inside us all. Both scripted and documentary subjects interest him because it allows for a broader creative exploration of narrative themes.
I first heard Forrest Hill's music from his then-unreleased album, Only Love, in a salon while I waited to cut off my pandemic-long hair. What struck me about him and his music is the universality of the love he describes in his lyrics. Throughout the months of interviews I find myself drawn to a love that transcends identity, sexuality, and labels. Is he gay, is he straight, or is he pansexual? Forrest is all these and more. What I wasn't expecting was to be so moved by his story of transcending loss and trauma, and his use of creativity and music to move through pain to achieve a level of peace I only aspire to. Forrest invites us all to tap into a universal love in the flow of life.
