As a post-production manager, Gregory Earls worked on numerous feature films, including The Hate U Give, The Wolverine, and Logan. Earls is a graduate of Norfolk State University (an HBCU) and the American Film Institute where he was a Cinematography Fellow.
He has directed music videos for Poetic Groove/Interscope records, and his short films, Sax’s Final Orbit and Life Drawings, have enjoyed exciting film festival runs and garnered numerous awards.
Earls’ first book, Empire of Light, an Urban Fiction novel about a student’s action-packed European trek to study the genius of Caravaggio, was published in 2011. Gregory currently resides in Inglewood, California with his wife, Stefania, a native of Milan, Italy.
The Department of Cinema and Power is a short film production company formed by Gregory Earls and Stacey Holderbach in order to raise awareness amongst the general public regarding issues of social justice, body positivity, racial equity, gender equality, human trafficking, and other compelling social and environmental causes through the use of narrative short fiction filmmaking.
Focusing its efforts on producing high quality short fiction films, DCP’s mission is to educate audiences on issues of social and environmental importance while entertaining them with captivating storylines, artistic direction, and high caliber performances. The company represents the intersection of art and advocacy, concentrating on delivering powerful messages of change while also nurturing new and emerging artists in film.
