Letter To Congress: A WILD Sanity

Letter To Congress: A WILD Sanity is an outdoor dance film advocating for the protection of public lands for the sake of our American spirit and sanity. It is a poetic, intimate, and personal letter that is danced, spoken, and sung on public lands in the Rocky Mountains. Its a creative attempt to represent the voices of some 500 million individuals who annually visit public lands in order to deliver a powerful message to lawmakers that American public lands are more than a commodity; they are the level playing fields of our democracy and are fundamental to maintaining our wellbeing.

Director Biography - Deborah Colley

Deborah Colley is a Carbondale-based dance artist, educator, organizer, and public land advocate. She spent her youth intensely training in classical ballet, modern dance and composition until a life changing trip to the Teton Science School in 2001. Inspired by mountain life, Deborah took a hiatus from dance to earn a B.A. in Environmental Science. She dedicated her early twenties to teaching plant identification to youth in the Sierras, hustling anxious teenagers up fourteeners in the Collegiate Peaks, and refining the art of dirt-bagging in wild places out of her 1990 Toyota Corolla. After settling down in Carbondale, CO, Deborah returned to the arts, working for Carbondale Arts and helping to establish the nonprofit Dance Initiative as well as the local dance company CoMotion. With her outdoor dance film, Letter To Congress: A WILD Sanity, Deborah has finally combined her two passions, utilizing creative expression as an advocate for wild public places. She believes that the arts and public lands hold the power to transform lives and make us better citizens of the world.
