Dylan Kimmell is an award winning filmmaker with a distinct and uncompromising voice, known for his unique blend of dark comedy, psychological horror, and high-concept genre subversion. His work delves into the depths of psychological trauma and betrayal, exploring the nature of monstrosity and insidious control with a dark, often absurd, sense of humor.
A testament to his unique style, Kimmell's award-winning short film, Give Me an Answer, a psychological thriller, earned him accolades for Best Thriller and runner-up Best Ensemble Cast
My work is driven by a fascination with the raw, often uncomfortable, truths of the human condition. I am drawn to exploring themes of psychological trauma, the insidious nature of control, and the blurred lines of morality. My stories often ask: what truly makes a monster? And how do we become one, or how do we survive them?
My filmmaking philosophy is a synthesis of genres, as I believe the most authentic exploration of grim subjects is found where the absurd and the terrifying can coexist. I am inspired by filmmakers who master their craft, particularly the genre spectacle of Steven Spielberg and the intricate plotting of Christopher Nolan. I aim to apply their grand-scale cinematic language to my own uniquely dark and personal narratives.
Ultimately, I want to create an unforgettable experience for the audience. My goal is to make films that are not only thrilling and unpredictable but also resonate on a deeper level, leaving a lasting impression and sparking conversation long after the credits roll. My stories are, in many ways, a method of processing and externalizing my own experiences, a way of turning my darkest moments into compelling and authentic art.
