Experiencing Interruptions?

Le regard de Lily

French photographer Mathilde Troussard weaves poetic narratives that address our shared human experience.
“Le regard de Lily” is rooted in the experience of mourning that Lily (the nickname given to Mathilde Troussard in childhood) went through a few years earlier. Following the sudden death of her father, she decided to migrate to the South of France, to Marseille.
She chose to work with the contemporary dancer Simonne Rizzo, whom she had met during her studies at the Beaux-Arts, to express through dance the different phases and emotions she went through. As the psychoanalyst Daniel Sibony wrote, “We cannot always find the words to put on the blockage of the body and the wound of the soul. Dance is a jet of life to get out of the rut.” Emerging from stillness to get “in motion”.
In “Le regard de Lily”, the poetic language applied to movement and image is used to question the essence of life: despite fragility and loss of bearings, the desire to live and rebuild oneself is at the heart dance.
The video create fictional realms within reality, inviting viewers to imagine and immerse themselves in their own narratives, blurring the lines between the tangible and the dreamlike.
Ode to slowness, slowlife, creativity and the Mediterranean.

Director Biography - Mathilde Troussard

Originally from Brittany, whose seaside landscapes rocked her childhood, Mathilde Troussard studied 5 years at the Beaux-Arts in Rennes and Angers, from which she graduated in 2006 with congratulations from the jury. Then she enhanced her career with a master's degree in environmental art at La Cambre and then an aggregation in visual and spatial arts. This allows him to teach in parallel with his artistic approach in higher art schools, in photography and in the performing arts.
In her artistic work, Mathilde Troussard weaves poetic stories that address our common human experience. It is inspired by common feelings around solitude: melancholy, emptiness, waiting, absence, disillusionment, and sweet madness, to feature female characters in poetic and dreamlike universes, to transcend both their cracks and their hopes. She enjoys collaborating with dancers in her work. His productions take the form of photographic series and video dances. In 2024 she is selected for the 5th Chelsea International Photography Festival in New York where several of her works will be exhibited.
